This is the offshore transformer station located at Horns Rev, Denmark. It only has one transformer (Cape Wind has 3) and is smaller than the 10-story tall transformer station Cape Wind plans to put just off the beaches of Mashpee, New Seabury, Cotuit, Osterville, Craigville, Hyannis Port, Seagull Beach, Smugglers Beach, West Dennis Beach, Sea Street Beach all the way to Chatham. The entire coast will be exposed to the enviromental impact of a possible transformer station fire, leak, spill or explosion. On 12/19/03 120,000 Los Angeles homes lost their electricity due to a TRANSFORMER FIRE! We cannot afford to take a chance with our Nantucket Sound. It's the only one we have.

THE PERMANENT DESTRUCTION OF OUR CAPE COD SHORELINE. THE INDUSTRIAL WIND PARK WILL BE VISIBLE FROM EVERY CAPE & ISLAND BEACH THAT FACES IT. ACCORDING TO CAPE WINDS NAVIGATIONAL IMPACT STUDY, IT WILL BE LIT ALL NIGHT WITH OVER 500 BLINKING LIGHTS AND FOGHORNS.

There will be 130 industrial construction sites spread over 24 square miles of our Cape Cod coastline!
Some transformer fires burn so hot, it can take up to 12 hours to extinguish. Who will put out the fire 8 miles off our coastline in time to save our beaches from the aftermath? Remember... an estimated 40,000 gallons of transformer oil and diesel fuel for the backup generator.
THE PROPOSED 130 STEEL WIND TURBINES WILL BE 143 FEET TALLER THAN THE TOP OF THE SAGAMORE BRIDGE!!! ACCORDING TO CAPE WIND'S NAVIGATION IMPACT STUDY, THE TURBINES WILL HAVE OVER 500 LIGHTS, MAKING THEM VISIBLE TO OUR COASTLINE 24 HOURS A DAY!!!
This picture drawn to scale shows how large the wind tower and the oil-filled transformer station will be compared to the 274-foot-tall Sagamore Bridge. How will 130 of these look just off our beaches? What if the transformer station leaks tens of thousands of gallons of oil? How many years will it take our pristine beaches to recover? What about our shellfish beds? We can't afford to let this project destroy our beaches, our livelihoods, or our children's ability to see why we work so hard to raise them on Cape Cod.
CAPE WINDS TEST TOWER - A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME. NO TRESPASSING IN OUR OWN NANTUCKET SOUND! This tower was placed 11 miles from our coastline. It is less than half the height, it is one-quarter of the width and IT IS STILL VISIBLE FROM MASHPEE TO CHATHAM ON ANY CLEAR DAY. The proposed wind farm comes as close as 4.7 miles, the towers are 417 feet tall and 16 feet wide! They want to put 130 towers with a 10-story oil-filled transformer station covering 24 miles of our coastline. REMEMBER , your beach is Nantucket Sound.
